About the Event
Longtermism is a moral view that positively influencing the long-term future should be a key priority of our time. Recently, a serious intellectual project has emerged around longtermism, and more people are being convinced by its importance. But is it true? And what does it imply about which causes and interventions are potentially most impactful?
We are glad to have 𝐅𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 as our guest speaker this time. Fin is an assistant to Toby Ord, and an incoming research scholar at Oxford University's Future of Humanity Institute. Effective Altruism (EA) is an emerging intellectual and social movement that promotes compassion guided by data and reason. We ask ourselves the following question: โHow can we, as individuals with limited time and resources, do the most good that we can?โ There is no easy answer to this challenging question, but by thinking about it, being honest and applying reason and evidence to guide our decisions, we can start to increase the positive impact we have on the world.
