About the Event
The Russian war against Ukraine presents the most serious challenge to the European Union. Europe is caught between its growing ambition of becoming a formidable global player that could shape the world in its own image and the limited capabilities it has to project power. What impact is the war likely to have on the EU’s self-perception as a ‘soft power’? What is to happen to the European Union as a peace project? Is the war likely to change the EU’s technocracy? Does Europe need its own army? And does Ukraine have a future in Europe, or what would a European future without Ukraine be like?
Join us on the 4th of November (Saturday) for our next meetup, focusing on “The Russian war against Ukraine and the return of geopolitics” with Dr Stefan Auer
Stefan Auer is an Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong. Twice named Jean Monnet Chair in EU Studies, he has published an award-winning monograph, Liberal Nationalism in Central Europe (London: Routledge 2004), and articles in Government and Opposition; International Affairs; the Journal of Common Market Studies and West European Politics, among others.
