Dinner

This week we are gathering at Treehouse in Central. The restaurant offers a selection of vegetarian dishes with good social space to gather.

Schedule

7:00 - 7:15 PM - Meet and greet

7:15 - 8:15 PM - Dinner with discussion

8:15 - 9:00 PM - Social, we encourage you to move around between conversations to meet new people!

Discussion - How important is it to increase happiness rather than to relieve suffering?

Discussion during dinner will start with Dr. Michael Plant's talk on: What are the best ways to improve world happiness? Link to video (27mins): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeUOHOCFteM

In his talk and current work with the Happier Lives Institute, Michael argues that, contrary to the apparent consensus within EA, poverty and physical health should not be the top priorities. He suggests we focus directly on mental health, pain, and what he calls ‘ordinary human unhappiness’ instead.

What is EAHK social?

EAHK's Monthly Socials aim to provide a welcoming space for everyone in the EA community to socialise and make new connections. We usually do meals, and indoor or outdoor activities such as bowling or hiking monthly. So, whether you are new to EA, or are familiar already, you are most welcome to join us.

New to Effective Altruism?

For those new to effective altruism, here are a couple of good introductions. In short, EA is about using evidence to carefully analyze how, given limited resources, we can help others better. Link: What is effective altruism?
